SYMPTOM
When browsing to file locations in QC-CALC, EDL, and ERS, mapped drive letters are not visible in the dialog. This is only occurring on Windows 8.
CAUSE
It turns out Microsoft has a bug whereby running with elevated permissions or "Run as admin" can mess up the settings. Fixing the registry setting below and rebooting will force Windows bring back the mapped drive letters for both standard and administrative users.
RESOLUTION
1. From the main Metro Start screen, run regedit.
2. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/System
3. Create a new DWORD entry with the name EnableLinkedConnections
and a value of 1
.
4. Restart your computer
5. Now you can see and use network drives with these installers or applications.
