SYMPTOM

I cannot use my CMM to inspect all features on my parts and I do not know how to get this additional information into the QC-CALC live plots. I need an extra plot to store this feature. Can I add another dimension to a QC-CALC file that was created a long time ago?

CAUSE

Some features just cannot be measured by standard CMMs due to the location of the feature or the type of feature it is (testing hardness for example).

RESOLUTION

You can add Manual Dimensions to an existing QC-CALC database, then use the Manual Dimension Values area in QC-CALC Real-Time to enter data for these dimensions. This is useful for creating features that are not available from the gage/CMM. For example, if a part has many features that can be measured by a standard CMM, but you also need to test the hardness of the part, that hardness value would have to be entered into QC-CALC Real-Time by hand.

Please see the Modify Database Structure section of the help file for directions on adding a manual dimension to an existing file and the Edit – Nominals and Tolerances section for directions relating to setting the Nominals and Tolerances for the added Manual Dimensions.
