SYMPTOM
You have QC-CALC 2.4 installed. You install 3.0 to try it out and suddenly find that 2.4 is no longer gathering data.
CAUSE
For reasons of convenience, QC-CALC 3.0 automatically upgrades your 2.4 data files to 3.0 format when you run it the first time. It will ask you if you would like to create a copy of each file. The original files are then copied and new 3.0 files are created with identical data and placed in 3.0's default location. However, if you open a 2.4 file manually in QC-CALC 3.0, it will automatically convert the file without copying it to a new location first. This means you'll need to convert the file back to the old format manually as described below.
RESOLUTION
To Convert the new 3.0 files back to Version 2.4 format, you need to use the Convert 3.0 program that is installed with QC-CALC 3.0. Follow the steps below:
- Open Convert 3.0 by clicking Start -> Programs -> Prolink -> Convert 3.0.
- Select Version 3.0 to Windows Version 2.4.
- Choose either Directories or Single or Multiple files at the top.
Choosing Directories will convert all files in the chosen directory. Otherwise you can choose a list of files to convert. Checking Include Subdirectories will recursively search all subdirectories under the parent and convert all files found to version 3.0.
- Choose a source path by either clicking the elipses ("...") button to the right of the Source field or by typing a path in the text field.
- Choose a destination path by either clicking the elipses ("...") button to the right of the Destination field or by typing a path in the text field.
NOTE: It is NOT recommended that you check Overwrite Converted File as this will cause the original data files to be overwritten. By keeping this box unchecked, Convert 3.0 will create copies of the files in Version 3.0 format.Click OK when ready to continue.
- On the Modify Database Structure screen, leave all settings as is and click OK.
