QUESTION

How do I get information such as part identifiers into QC-CALC if my machine does not provide the data?

ANSWER

The answer is factors. Factors can be entered either manually into QC-CALC, sent from an inspection machine, or sent via a text file called FACTORn.txt.

In this case, since your machine isn't sending the data, the next most automated possibility is to send the factors via a FACTORn.txt text file.

Many of our customers will place a bar code reader or other device just upstream from inspection to scan a part just prior to entering inspection. A small bar code reader is cheap and can usually be configured to output a small text file that is picked up and processed by QC-CALC when data is collected.
